Managing Partner & Co-Founder
Prior to its acquisition by GoDaddy in 2017, HEG was the second largest provider of web-enablement services in Europe with an end-to-end product suite covering the entire value chain including the mass and managed hosting segments.
HEG operated primarily in the UK and Germany, the two largest hosting markets in Europe, where it was ranked in the top 1-3 across all segments.
Oakley originally acquired HEG (formerly Host Europe) in 2008 before exiting to Montagu Private Equity in 2010. Oakley re-acquired a minority stake in the business in 2015 on the sale of Fund II’s investment in Intergenia to HEG.
During our investment, HEG completed 12 bolt-on acquisitions, contributing a total of €14m pre-synergy EBITDA.
In April 2017, an agreement was reached to sell HEG to GoDaddy Inc for an enterprise value of €1.7 billion. The transaction generated a gross money multiple of 2.1x and 40% IRR for Fund II.
